BUCS TO OPEN 2002 EVALUATION TOURNAMENT WEDNESDAY

Des Moines Buccaneers Head Coach Bob Ferguson and Assistant Coaches Tim Ferguson and Bryce Macken expect nearly 85 hockey players to be in attendance next week for the Bucs’ 2002-03 Evaluation/Recruiting Tournament. The tournament/camp begins Wednesday, June 19th and runs through Saturday, June 22nd at the Metro Ice Sports Arena, 7201 Hickman Road. The format of the camp includes morning practices followed by evening games. The evening games are open to the public, and will take place Wednesday (6/19), Thursday (6/20) and Friday (6/21) at 6:30 and 8:00 p.m. Saturday’s game will have a “Camp All Stars” format and will take place at 6:30 p.m. Admission is just $2.00 each night and includes both games and roster/stat sheet with a “Guess the Team” contest, in which fans are asked to name the 20 players that will be on the roster at the Bucs’ home opener in September. Concession and beverage stands will be open for each evening of the tournament.

Six members of last season’s team will be in attendance at camp:

Defensemen:
Evan Stoflet (Madison, Wisconsin)

Forwards:
Kris Bouchard (Naperville, Illinois)
Ryan Dingle (Steamboat Springs, Colorado)
Marty Guerin (Lansing, Michigan) *
Tommy Kolar (Duluth, Minnesota)

Goaltender:
Trent Baker (Lincoln, Rhode Island)

* Guerin will attend camp, but is recovering from an injury and will not skate.

Prior to Saturday night’s game, a special “thank you” tailgate party will be held for Buccaneer season ticket holders in front of the Metro Ice Sports Arena. Ticket holders will enjoy free brats, hot dogs, chips and soda, and $1.00 draws of beer. All season ticket holders received post cards in the mail that will serve as their admission ticket.
