Bucs Prepare For 2-Game Weekend at Home: Topeka, River City

The Des Moines Buccaneers (1-1) stay in Des Moines for a two-game homestand this weekend at the Metro Ice Sports Arena, 7201 Hickman Rd.

On Friday night, October 11th, the Bucs host the Topeka ScareCrows, led by Head Coach Bliss Littler. Topeka has gone 1-2 in their first three games of the season. This past Saturday night, Topeka played their home opener at Landon Arena, edging out the Chicago Steel in a 2-1 overtime win. The ScareCrows are led offensively by veteran forward Erik Fabian, who scored both Topeka goals on Saturday. Goaltender Layne Sedevie has been in net for all three Topeka games; and has logged a .869 save percentage and 3.587 goals against average.

On Saturday night, October 12th, the River City Lancers are in town to battle the Bucs. River City is the team formerly known to fans as Omaha. This season, the Lancers have moved across the river into Council Bluffs and will be playing in the 7,000 seat Mid-America Center. River City will still be under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Hastings, an 8-season veteran in the organization that led the Lancers to a regular season championship last year. The Lancers currently sit atop the USHL’s Western Division with a 3-1 record in regular season play. Scoring has been evenly distributed so far on the River City roster; Grant Clafton, Janne Jokila, John Togiai, and Tim Cook have all tallied 3 points apiece. Goaltender Dominic Vicari has been in net for all 4 Lancers games and has logged a .901 save percentage and 2.469 goals against average.

Friday night is Nextel Night at the Metro Ice Sports Arena and Saturday’s game is presented by Budweiser. Game time both nights is 7:35 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and available by calling 278-9757 (to charge tickets to a credit card) or stopping by the Metro Ice Sports Arena, located at 7201 Hickman Rd. in Urbandale (where cash, checks or credit cards are accepted). Tickets are $11 for arena level reserved seating and $13 for ice level reserved seating. Special group pricing and luxury box seating is also available. Bucs Fall Short vs. Cedar Rapids

The Des Moines Buccaneers fell short in their quest to beat the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders this past Saturday night. The RoughRiders topped the Bucs 5-3. Cedar Rapids’ Troy Brummelt tallied 4 points (1G, 3A) in the victory and Tyler Howells had 3 (2G, 1A). Des Moines’ 3 goals were each scored by different players: Bryce Anderson, Jamie Hoffmann and Marty Guerin.
