Marty Mjelleli - Number 19, Alternate Captain

Last Team: Buccaneers

Marty is with the Des Moines Buccaneers for a second season. Originally from Faribault, MN, Marty started playing hockey at the age of 3.

Marty’s best hockey achievement includes winning the National Championship in 2001 while playing for Shattuck St. Mary’s. The best advice he has received comes from his dad, never be content.

Kevin Kasel: Do you have a favorite pro or college team?

Marty Mjelleli: Minnesota Wild.

Kevin: What about a favorite player?

Marty: Mike Modano.

Kevin: Tell me about some of your goals for the future.

Marty: To win a championship here in Des Moines and play college hockey next year.

Kevin: Speaking of that (playing college hockey), since you do turn 21 in January, what is the stipulation on maintaining eligibility for D1?

Marty: I just have to take a full load of classes (at DMACC).

Kevin: What are some things you want to do in your life besides hockey?

Marty: Run my own business.

Kevin: My first job was ...

Marty: Paper boy.

Kevin: Where did you go on your last vacation?

Marty: To Brainerd (Minnesota), went fishing in Brainerd.

Kevin: Best decision I ever made?

Marty: Going to Shattuck (St. Mary's).

Kevin: What is your least favorite trait in a person?

Marty: Probably back stabbing.

Kevin: Do you have a favorite movie?

Marty: That's tough, I am quite a movie buff.

Kevin: I remember that from your last interview.

Marty: Yeah, it be a toss up between and Office Space and Something About Mary.

Kevin: If you could have lunch with one person, past or present, who would it be?

Marty: God.

Kevin: What's your most embarrassing moment?

Marty: There's been a lot. I took a penalty shot and my breezers came all the way down and I fell.

Marty: A good guy.

Kevin: Who is your favorite Super-Hero?

Marty: Probably Mighty Mouse. Can I change that, probably Fred Flintstone.

Kevin: What is your favorite sports-related movie?

Marty: Rudy.

Kevin: What is your hockey career highlight?

Marty: Playing in the National Championship with Shattuck.

Kevin: When you're not playing hockey, where are we most likely to find you (in season or off season)?

Marty: In my basement playing ping pong with my friends.

Kevin: If you were stranded on a desert island, whom would you want to be stranded with ? Britney Spears, Halle Berry, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez or Tara Reid?

Marty: Probably Cameron Diaz.

Kevin: What is your favorite board game?

Marty: Monopoly.

Kevin: What web page do you check first when you go on-line?

Marty: Hotmail.

Kevin: Do you have a pre-game ritual? If so, what is it?

Marty: If I did, I have to kill ya.

Kevin: Who is faster, Speedy Gonzalez or the Road Runner?

Marty: Me.

Kevin: What is your favorite Des Moines radio station?

Marty: 97.3, the Hawk, the country station here in town.

Kevin: Who is your favorite professional non-NHL team?

Marty: Minnesota Twins.

Kevin: Rank your opponent: Who is the toughest forward / defensemen / goaltender you have faced in the USHL?

Marty: I am going to be bias towards all my friends in the league. Probably toughest d-man, David Carlisle for Lincoln, toughest forward, I am saying this cause I am completely bias, Tom Pohl and Mark Van Guilder from Tri-City.

Kevin: Goaltender?

Marty: I am going to have to go with (Philippe) Lamoureux (Lincoln).

Kevin: What food dish do you miss most from home?

Marty: Steak and potato every night or meat and potato.

Kevin: If you could change one aspect of your game, what would it be?

Marty: To become a better skater.

Kevin: Which one, new or old Buccaneer logo?

Marty: Old.

Kevin: Burger King, McDonalds or Wendy's?

Marty: Hardees.

Kevin: There's not many left here in Des Moines.

Marty: I know, it's a shame. That's like the staple of Faribault (Minnesota), our Hardees.

Kevin: What is the last movie you have seen?

Marty: Scary Movie 3.

Kevin: What is the last CD you have purchased?

Marty: Blink's new CD.

Kevin: What is your favorite card game?

Marty: Euchre.

Kevin: Outside of Des Moines, who has the best logo in the league?

Marty: I kinda like Waterloo's.

Kevin: Outside of Des Moines, who has the best arena in the league?

Marty: These questions are hard this year. Hmmm.

Kevin: See you get different ones, you are a veteran. So you don't get the same ones.

Marty: Exactly, I having everything I was going to say primed to say. I was prompted. I'm going to go with Lincoln. But I think ours is the best if you modify that question.

Kevin: What "barn(s)" are you most intimated to play in, in the USHL?

Marty: Chicago, cause they have a lot of fans.

Kevin: Any advice for younger hockey players?

Marty: Hard works beats talent.
