Player Interview

5/6/98

Sarah: So where are you from?

Jeremy Vokes: Boston...Masachussetts.

Sarah: What's it like there?

Vokes: Nothing like it is in Iowa.

Sarah: So what do you think about Iowa?

Vokes: I hate it.

Sarah: Do you really hate it?

Vokes: No, I'm just kidding. It's not bad, it's a lot different here, a lot more peaceful; more relaxing.

Sarah: But you prefer Boston?

Vokes: Yeah, there's nothing like home.

Sarah: Ok, what are some of the past teams you've played for?

Vokes: I played for a prep school last year and then I played for the high school. Besides growing up just playing for different teams.

Sarah: So how did you end up playing for the Bucs?

Vokes: Box came out to (I think it was Boxer) watch me play and asked me to come to camp. That's basically how it happened.

Sarah: Tell me about your family.

Vokes: It's big, it's very big, lots of brothers and sisters.

Sarah: What's the best thing about being a Buc?

Vokes: The best thing? Well, playing in the National Tournament.

Sarah: If you had a million dollars what would you do with it?

Vokes: I would build a rink, that's what I would do.

Sarah: Tell me some of your hobbies.

Vokes: Fishin', golf, and hockey, that's it. Give me a hockey stick, golf club, and a fishing pole and I'll be set anywhere. Put me anywhere in the world and I'll be happy!

Sarah: What's your favorite food?

Vokes: Strawberries.

Sarah: Really?

Vokes: Yeah strawberries.

Sarah: I would have thought pizza!

Vokes: That's what everyone says, it's too easy.

Sarah: Yes it is. So do you have a favorite pro team?

Vokes: Not really, maybe Boston.

Sarah: Ok, a college team then?

Vokes: Miami (Ohio), that's where I'm going, so I got to root for them.

Sarah: What's your most embarrassing moment? It can be on the ice or off the ice.

Vokes: Oh I've had so many of them I can't remember! Probably on the ice. There was a kid coming down on a one on one. My skate was untied so I left the ice and the kid had a breakaway.

Sarah: Oh no!

Vokes: Yeah, everyone yelled at me, but...[shrug]...I felt pretty stupid.

Sarah: What's your greatest athletic moment?

Vokes: Making the Bucs.

Sarah: What are some of the teams you like to play in the USHL or don't like to play?

Vokes: I don't really have any favorites or somewhere I don't like to play. I like playing Lincoln and beating them. They're a bunch of stuck-up little kids who get everything.

Sarah: Are they?

Vokes: Oh yeah, they're horrible.

Sarah: All right and the last one; what would the fans be surprised to know about you?

Vokes: Oh, I don't know I have a pretty dull life!

Sarah: There's got to be something!

Vokes: That I'm the last one to get interviewed.
