The USHL and Goalies’ World Magazine announced yesterday that Des Moines’ goaltender A.J. Bucchino (Bow, NH) has been named USHL Goaltender of the Month for March 2003. GUERIN NAMED 2ND TEAM ALL-USHL SELECTION

The USHL has announced its annual end-of-season awards, and Buccaneer captain Marty Guerin (Lansing, MI) has been named as a Second Team All-USHL Selection. The 6’0”, 200 lb forward tallied 27 goals and 33 assists this year; he’ll be attending the University of Miami-Ohio next season.

FORMER BUCCANEER SEJNA WINS HOBEY BAKER AWARD

Former Des Moines Buccaneer Peter Sejna (’98-’99, ’99-’00) has become the first the USHL-alum (and first member of the Colorado College Tigers) to receive the prestigious Hobey Baker Award. The Hobey Baker Memorial Award annually honors the top player in Division I college hockey in the U.S.; the award is voted upon by college coaches, NHL scouts, media and supervisors of officials (fans make up 1% of the vote). Sejna, who just wrapped up his junior year at Colorado College, is not just the first USHL alum and CC player to receive the award; he is also the first European-born player to be honored, as a native of Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia. He finished up the 2002-03 season as the nation’s leading scorer in points and goals, and was the WCHA Player of the Year. Sejna signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Blues last weekend and scored his first NHL goal against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday. He will be honored at the annual Hobey Baker Award Banquet on Friday, April 25th in St. Paul, Minnesota.
