BUCS FACE STARS IN LINCOLN FRIDAY, HOST CHICAGO SATURDAY

The Des Moines Buccaneers (5-9-1) after picking up 2 of 6 possible points over 3 games this weekend, are set to face the Lincoln Stars again this Friday night, November 22nd. The Bucs and the Stars have faced each other 3 times already this season: October 15th (3-2 Lincoln), November 9th (4-1 Lincoln) and November 14th (4-3 Des Moines). The Stars are currently in 1st place in the league with a 12-6-1 record, and have 3 players in the league’s top 5 scorers: Ryan Potulny (25 pts), John Snowden (22 pts) and David Backes (22 pts). Game time at Lincoln on Friday night is 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on AM 1700 KBGG.

On Saturday, November 23rd, the Bucs host the Chicago Steel for the very first time this season. The Steel are currently in last place in the USHL, with a 5-10-1 record. Chicago comes to town on Saturday to face the Bucs with recently traded Des Moines forwards Ben Geelan and Eric Helstedt. (Des Moines acquired defenseman Joe Piskula from the Steel last week). Game time Saturday night is 7:35 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Metro Ice Sports Arena at 278-9757, or stopping by the ticket office located at 7201 Hickman Road in Urbandale.

BUCCANEER NOTES

Buccaneer captain MARTY GUERIN (Lansing, MI) was named USHL/Let’s Play Hockey Offensive Player of the Week after notching 3goals and 2 assists in games this past weekend. Guerin is the Bucs’ leading scorer with 9 goals and 4 assists. Buccaneer forward JAMIE HOFFMANN (New Ulm, MN) is in the news for 2 reasons this week: he has officially committed to Colorado College for next season, and he has just been named to the USA Hockey Top Prospects Tournament team. Hoffmann will travel with 10 other USHL standouts to Michigan for the tournament, held December 2-4.

BUCCANEER ALUMNI NEWS

Former Buccaneer forward PETER SEJNA (’98-’99, ’99-’00), currently a junior at Colorado College, notched 5 points over the weekend, and is currently tied for the nation’s scoring lead. He was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week. Former Buccaneer goaltender MIKE MANTUA (’99-’00, ’00-’01), currently a sophomore at Western Michigan University, scored a goal in the Broncos’ game against Ferris State on Saturday night, and was named the CCHA Player of the Week. Mantua also scored a goal during his tenure with Des Moines. Former Buccaneer forward ERIK COLE (has notched 6 points in 18 games for the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes so far this season.
