Kevin Kasel: Tell me about your family life, do you have any brothers or sisters?
Patrick Borgestad: I have two older brothers and one younger sister. My brothers both attend college in Minnesota, one at St. John's, one at the University of Minnesota. My sister is at Como Park High School.
Kevin: How old where you when you started playing hockey?
Patrick: I started playing competitively at the age of four. I started skating at three.
Kevin: Why did you start?
Patrick: It's been in the family forever, I just carried it on.
Kevin: Have you always been a forward?
Patrick: Yes, I have.
Kevin: Tell me about the past teams you've played for.
Patrick: I played for Como Park High School, my junior year. Then I went to Tri-City Storm in the USHL for my senior year and got traded to the Des Moines Buccaneers this year.
Kevin: If I won the lottery, the first thing I'd do is ...
Patrick: I'd buy a resort in Northern Minnesota and let my brothers run it.
Kevin: Do you have a favorite pro or college team?
Patrick: I like the Gophers, that's Minnesota. And I like Eric Lindros and Pavel Bure.
Kevin: Do you have a favorite pro team?
Patrick: Minnesota Wild.
Kevin: Best advice you've ever received (doesn't have to be hockey-related):
Patrick: Don't live life with any regrets, that's my Dad.
Kevin: Tell me about some of your goals for the future.
Patrick: Just keep playing this game as long as I can.
Kevin: What is your favorite hockey memory?
Patrick: Winning the Select 17 National tournament with Team Minnesota when I was 17.
Kevin: My first job was ...
Patrick: I stocked groceries at my Uncle's convenient store for awhile, but that didn't last too long. So I am still waiting on that.
Kevin: Best decision I ever made?
Patrick: Leaving my senior year to go play in the USHL.
Kevin: What are your hobbies?
Patrick: I enjoy fishing and hunting.
Kevin: What can't you imagine living without?
Patrick: I couldn't live without the Internet. That my only way to contact home, cause I ran up the cell phone bill too much. So they took it away.
Kevin: Do you have a favorite movie?
Patrick: I'm a big fan of Youngblood, typical hockey movie, everyone likes it.
Kevin: What's your most embarrassing moment?
Patrick: When I was six or seven, we were at an outdoor hockey rink, we were playing with the older guys and a train drove by and I stopped in the middle of the game and waved at it. That was pretty embarrassing.
Kevin: Who is your favorite non-hockey athlete?
Patrick: I like Torii Hunter for the Minnesota Twins, baseball player and Brett Favre.
Kevin: If you could have lunch with one person, past or present, who would it be?
Patrick: Probably, Eric Lindros, cause we are similar in a lot of places. I read his stories, it sounds like myself when I was younger. He had some hard times and got through 'em. The way he developed, is the way I came upon.
Kevin: When you're not playing hockey, where are we most likely to find you (in season or off season)?
Patrick: You'll find me on the lakes in Minnesota and in Canada. I am all over the place fishing.
Kevin: Who is your favorite band?
Patrick: I like New Found Glory. It's kind of a punk band. It is new and up and coming.
Kevin: Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
Patrick: My Father.
Kevin: What is your favorite TV show/book?
Patrick: I like The Simpson, big fan of them. Reading The Lord of Rings right now, they are pretty good books.
Kevin: If you started your own NHL franchise, and you could pick any player, who would you start with and why?
Patrick: Marian Gaborik, cause he got some time and he's gonna develop and he's going to be a big impact in the league in a couple of years.
Kevin: Who would you have on your hockey "Dream Team"?
Patrick: I'd have Lemieux, Gretzky and (Brett) Hull as a line, just because Gretzky and Lemieux can do the damage and then Brett Hull is just an all-around good guy. I'd probably throw Gordie Howe out on the second line with who ever. Ray Borque back there and Bobby Orr. Patrick Roy or Manny Fernandez.
Kevin: If you were stranded on a desert island, whom would you want to be stranded with ... Britney Spears, Cameron Diaz, Sarah Michelle Gellar or Tara Reid?
Patrick: I'd go with Britney Spears.
Kevin: What is something you've always wanted to do, but haven't yet?
Patrick: I haven't been to college yet. I want to get there. That's why I am playing in this league.
Kevin: Who would you rather be, Bugs Bunny or Road Runner?
Patrick: Road Runner, I need to pick up my speed on the game.
Kevin: Who would you rather be, Superman or Batman?
Patrick: Batman, I like his car.
Kevin: Any advice for younger hockey players?
Patrick: Don't give up. Keep trying. There is hurdles in life, just get over 'em.
