Player Biography
Ryan, a native of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, has returned to Des Moines for his second season with the Buccaneers. Last year, Ryan scored 7 goals and 10 assists for the Bucs. The NHL player he admires most is Chris Drury because he is a big, dominant player who has a presence on and off the ice. Ryan was traded to the Tri-City Storm in late December, 2002. |
Kevin Kasel: Tell me about your family life, do you have any brothers or sisters?
Ryan Dingle: One sister, she is 13 years old.
Kevin: How old where you when you started playing hockey?
Ryan: My first team was probably when I was five years old.
Kevin: Why did you start?
Ryan: My dad. He played hockey up through high school and he was a big high school hockey coach back in Colorado. He kinda pushed me (to play hockey).
Kevin: Why did you decide to play for the Bucs?
Ryan: I pretty much told (to go) here. I committed to the University of Denver before I came here. They appointed me to the Bucs.
Kevin: Have you always been a forward?
Ryan: Yeah.
Kevin: Tell me about the past teams you've played for.
Ryan: Actually, I really never played at a high level until I came here. I always played lower teams, because I lived in the mountains areas. Most of the time, it was skiing that all the kids who were athletic-inclined to do. So there weren't any major teams in Steamboat (Colorado), so I always played "B" hockey through my entire career until, not last year, but the year before I played in Vail (Colorado) and that was Midget Triple A team. That was the highest level I ever played in.
Kevin: If I won the lottery, the first thing I'd do is ...
Ryan: Get my parents out of debt.
Kevin: Do you have a nickname?
Ryan: No.
Kevin: What is your favorite saying?
Ryan: My favorite saying ... 'mind as well.'
Kevin: Tell me about some of your goals for the future.
Ryan: Well, obviously every hockey players' dream is to make it to the NHL. That's a given. Goals? Goals in life ... just be successful and happy, in general.
Kevin: What is your favorite hockey memory?
Ryan: I have to say, winning State with my dad, back in Colorado. Winning the State Championship.
Kevin: My first job was ...
Ryan: I worked at a hockey shop.
Kevin: What are your hobbies?
Ryan: I really don't have any hobbies.
Kevin: What would you consider your dream car?
Ryan: My dream car ... Cadillac Escalade.
Kevin: What do you like to do besides hockey?
Ryan: I like to play lacrosse. I play lacrosse with my friends back home.
Kevin: What can't you imagine living without?
Ryan: I don't know, I'll get back to you on that one.
Kevin: Do you have a favorite movie?
Ryan: I have to say Dumb and Dumber.
Kevin: What's your most embarrassing moment?
Ryan: Actually, my pants fell down when I was playing a game. My hockey breezers.

Ryan: Probably, 9 years old.

Kevin: Who is your favorite non-hockey athlete?
Ryan: Tiger Woods.
Kevin: If you could have lunch with one person, past or present, who would it be?
Ryan: Bobby Orr.
Kevin: If you were a head coach of a team what would you do?
Ryan: What would I do ... I don't know, that's a tough one.
Kevin: What is your favorite food?
Ryan: Pasta.
Kevin: Who is your favorite band?
Ryan: Dave Matthews Band.
Kevin: What is your favorite TV show/book?
Ryan: My favorite book is, Lance Armstrong's Autobiography.
Kevin: If you started your own NHL franchise, and you could pick any player, who would you start with and why?
Ryan: Mat Sundin.
Kevin: In particular reason?
Ryan: Just because he's a big dominate player.
Kevin: Who would you have on your hockey "Dream Team"?
Ryan: Drury, Mr. Clutch.

Ryan: I re-tape my stick after every period.
