Player Biography

Michael, who hails from Apple Valley, Minnesota, played last year for Burnsville High School and scored 10 goals and 10 assists in 20 games. The NHL player he admires most is Mike Modano (Dallas) because "he made it to the NHL so young and is always willing to sign autographs".

Kevin Kasel: Tell me about your family life, do you have any brothers or sisters?

Mike Franks: Yeah, I got a little brother, who's in 8th grade, he plays hockey back in Minnesota. My Mom is a principal and my Dad works for a financial company.

Kevin: How old where you when you started playing hockey?

Mike: Five years old.

Kevin: Why did you start?

Mike: Cause my older cousins played. I enjoyed watching them. I had to strap on the skates too.

Kevin: Why did you decide to play for the Bucs?

Mike: I want to play at higher level. To play for team where I could better myself by playing with the best kids.

Kevin: Have you always been a forward?

Mike: Yep.

Kevin: If I won the lottery, the first thing I'd do is ...

Mike: Buy a car.

Kevin: Do you have a favorite pro or college team?

Mike: U of M, U.M. Gophers for college and Minnesota Wild for pro.

Kevin: What about a favorite player?

Mike: I'd have to say Mike Modano of the Dallas Stars.

Kevin: What is your favorite saying?

Mike: A shot not taken is a goal not scored.

Kevin: Where would you like to go to college?

Mike: U of M.

Kevin: Best advice you've ever received (doesn't have to be hockey-related):

Mike: What goes around, comes around.

Mike: I'm still in high school.

Kevin: What is your favorite hockey memory?

Mike: Probably my whole entire Pee-Wee "A" season.

Kevin: Any particular reason for that?

Mike: Cause we were like 38-2 that year.

Kevin: My first job was ...

Mike: I was lawn care worker. I mowed lawns with big commercial lawn-mowers.

Kevin: Best decision I ever made?

Mike: Coming down here.

Kevin: What would you being doing now if you weren't playing hockey?

Mike: Probably just working and going to school.

Kevin: What would you consider your dream car?

Mike: '69 Camaro.

Kevin: In comparison to your hometown what do you like and dislike about Des Moines?

Mike: I like it, cause I come from a pretty big hometown. In a lot of the ways, the neighborhoods and school are like the same. The dislike would be; a little behind in the times in compared to my hometown.

Kevin: When did you first hear about the Bucs?

Mike: About five, six years ago.

Kevin: Did you have any other choices?

Mike: No, they took me in the draft.

Kevin: What can't you imagine living without?

Mike: My TV.

Kevin: Do you have a favorite movie?

Mike: Slapshot.

Kevin: What's your most embarrassing moment?

Mike: Forgetting my beezers and having to play the first two periods with soccer shorts on for equipment when I was a Squirt.

Kevin: Who is your favorite non-hockey athlete?

Mike: Daunte Culpepper.

Kevin: What is your favorite non-hockey sport?

Mike: Football.

Kevin: When you're not playing hockey, where are we most likely to find you (in season or off season)?

Mike: Off-season, up in northern Minnesota on the lakes. In-season probably playing my guitar.

Kevin: What is your favorite food?

Mike: Spaghetti.

Kevin: What is your favorite TV show/book?

Mike: Friends.

Kevin: If you started your own NHL franchise, and you could pick any player, who would you start with and why?

Mike: Gretzky, just because he is the greatest of all-time.

Kevin: Who would you have on your hockey "Dream Team"?

Mike: Gretzky, Ray Borque, Bobby Orr, 'Rocket' Richard, Fedorov.

Kevin: Net-minder?

Mike: Patrick Roy.

Kevin: What are your superstitions?

Mike: I always put my left-side equipment on first of the doubles. And I carry a roll of tape around, same roll of tape in a certain jacket to every game.

Kevin: If you were stranded on a desert island, whom would you want to be stranded with ... Brittany Spears, Cameron Diaz, Sarah Michelle Gellar or Tara Reid?

Mike: Tara Reid.

Kevin: What is something you've always wanted to do, but haven't yet?

Mike: Drag race.

Kevin: Who would you rather be, Bugs Bunny or Road Runner?

Mike: Bugs Bunny.

Mike: Superman.

Mike: My speed, be faster.

Mike: Play every shift as if it were your last.
