Player Biography

Bob played last season for the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers, where he scored 13 goals and 20 assists. A native of Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, Bob most admires NHL player Dan McGillis (Philadelphia) because he is a “hard hitting, good defenseman”. He says that the best advice he’s received was from his grandfather: “If you can’t find time to do something right the first time, how will you find time to do it right the second time”?

Kevin Kasel: Tell me about your family life, do you have any brothers or sisters?

Bob Kenworthy: Yes, one brother and one sister. My brother is 15, turning 16 in January. My sister is 11, turning 12 in December.

Kevin: How old where you when you started playing hockey?

Bob: Four years old.

Kevin: Why did you start?

Bob: Basically, my Dad got me involved in hockey. He played hockey when he was in high school. He got me into it.

Kevin: Why did you decide to play for the Bucs?

Bob: Basically, the Bucs recruited me last year. They offered me a tender. I got a lot of other teams. Basically, the Bucs gave me the best offer, the best opportunity.

Kevin: Have you always been a defensemen?

Bob: Yes I have.

Kevin: Tell me about the past teams you've played for.

Bob: Probably my most significant team I used to played for was the Philadelphia Jr Flyers. Back east, we were probably the dominate team in our district. We really never had to play that much competition. I played for a couple other teams when I was younger.

Kevin: If I won the lottery, the first thing I'd do is ...

Bob: Probably buy a nice house.

Kevin: Do you have a nickname?

Bob: Back in my High School, my High School friends used to call me "Bitter". Cause I was kinda bitter about stuff.

Kevin: What is your favorite saying?

Bob: I have no idea.

Kevin: Best advice you've ever received (doesn't have to be hockey-related):

Bob: My Grandfather always told me, 'if you don't have time do stuff right the first time how are you going to find time to do it right the second time?'

Kevin: Tell me about some of your goals for the future.

Bob: Basically after I am done with the Bucs I want get a scholarship to play Division I hockey. Hopefully after that, build like a nice career, do something, might be hockey-related, depends on the opportunities I get. Might be hockey-related, might not be, so I have a good career.

Kevin: What is your favorite hockey memory?

Bob: Probably last year in the (Midget) Buc Bowl, we came back, down 5-2 going into the 3rd and it was the Championship game. We scored three goals and tied the game up, in the last seven minutes of the third period. Went into overtime. And nobody scored in the overtime. Went into the shoot-out after that, and I got picked to have a shoot-out. I was picked probably the 5th guy to go, it was all tied up after that. So I went in and shot and I scored and we won the game.

Kevin: My first job was ...

Bob: Probably working for my Dad in an auto body shop.

Kevin: What would you consider your dream car?

Bob: Probably, definitely a Ferrari.

Kevin: In comparison to your hometown what do you like and dislike about Des Moines?

Kevin: What is your favorite non-hockey sport?

Bob: Baseball.

Kevin: If you could have lunch with one person, past or present, who would it be?

Bob: Probably Bobby Orr.

Kevin: If you were a head coach of a team what would you do?

Bob: Teach them how to be a team. Be one as a team. Play not just for yourself, but play for the team.

Kevin: When you're not playing hockey, where are we most likely to find you (in season or off season)?

Bob: Around town, my house, my girl friend's house.

Bob: Probably start with Dominik Hasek.

Kevin: Who would you have on your hockey "Dream Team"?

Bob: Start off with Ray Borque and Bobby Orr for defensemen. Probably have Bobby Clark, Mike Modano and Simon Gagne for forwards.

Kevin: I noticed you started out with defensemen, everyone else started out with forwards.

Bob: Oh yeah.

Kevin: If you were stranded on a desert island, whom would you want to be stranded with ... Britney Spears, Cameron Diaz, Sarah Michelle Gellar or Tara Reid?

Kevin: Any advice for younger hockey players?

Bob: Just to keep working hard. And basically, when you find yourself not doing so well, falling down, and not doing stuff you think you should be doing, keep working harder.
