Player Biography

Evan is the only returning defenseman from last season’s squad. This Madison, Wisconsin native scored 2 goals and 13 assists last year for the Bucs and received the Bob Punsalan Memorial Award for dedication and contribution to Des Moines’ youth hockey program. His all-time favorite NHL player is Bobby Orr, because “he changed the game forever”.

Kevin Kasel: Tell me about your family life, do you have any brothers or sisters?

Evan Stoflet: Nope, I am an only child.

Kevin: How old where you when you started playing hockey?

Evan: I was 6 years old.

Kevin: Why did you start?

Evan: I was trying something new. My cousins played and they gave me some of their older equipment. I was just trying other sports.

Kevin: Have you always been a defensemen?

Evan: Yep.

Kevin: Tell me about the past teams you've played for.

Evan: Well before Des Moines, I played for the Bozeman Ice Dogs in the America West League. Before that, the Madison Capitals, coached by Bob Suter, he won an Olympic Gold with the Miracle on Ice team.

Kevin: If I won the lottery, the first thing I'd do is ...

Evan: I would buy an (Cadillac) Escalade.

Kevin: Do you have a favorite pro or college team?

Evan: I like the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL. Then college ... whoever I play for.

Kevin: What about a favorite player?

Evan: Anson Carter.

Kevin: Do you have a nickname?

Evan: Stof, just shorten the last name.

Kevin: Tell me about some of your goals for the future.

Evan: Definitely to get a D-1 scholarship. Play college hockey and if there is an opportunity to play professional.

Kevin: My first job was ...

Evan: I worked in my Dad's lumber store. Little odds and ends stuff, stocking and stuff, doing whatever.

Kevin: What would you being doing now if you weren't playing hockey?

Evan: Probably attending school and golfing.

Kevin: In comparison to your hometown what do you like and dislike about Des Moines?

Evan: They're pretty much the same. Madison is more of a college town. Not too much different, a little bit bigger. Not too bad, it is about the same.

Kevin: When did you first hear about the Bucs?

Evan: At the "Select 16" Festival, Craig Hagkull and Nick Kruger were my coaches.

Kevin: Did you have any other choices (besides the Bucs)?

Evan: I talked to a couple of other teams in this league. I had a couple from the North American League, but when I came here I just liked the surroundings. And I knew the coaches. And I liked them a lot and it seemed like the best choice for me.

Kevin: What do you like to do besides hockey?

Evan: I like to golf a lot.

Kevin: Do you have a favorite movie?

Evan: Probably the original Shaft.

Kevin: What's your most embarrassing moment?

Evan: On ice, probably scoring twice against my own team twice when I was a Bantam (14 and under).

Kevin: Who is your favorite non-hockey athlete?

Evan: Mohammed Ali

Kevin: What is your favorite non-hockey sport?

Evan: Golf.

Kevin: If you could have lunch with one person, past or present, who would it be?

Evan: Malcolm X.

Kevin: If you were head coach of a team what would you do?

Evan: Lead 'em to a championship.

Kevin: When you're not playing hockey, where are we most likely to find you (in season or off season)?

Evan: Off-season, probably working out or golfing. In-season, just hanging out with the team.

Kevin: Who is your favorite band?

Evan: The Temptations.

Kevin: What is your favorite TV show/book?

Evan: TV Show is definitely The Simpsons

Kevin: If you started your own NHL franchise, and you could pick any player, who would you start with and why?

Evan: Anson Carter. I like his style of play and he's a solid player. And he picks up numbers constantly in the season.

Kevin: What is something you've always wanted to do, but haven't yet?

Evan: Go to Africa.

Kevin: If I could change one thing about me, it would be ...

Evan: Wish I had a deeper voice.

Evan: If you fall down, get back up.
