Bucs gain title series in hockey

Two upsets Sunday in the USHL playoffs helped the Des Moines Buccaneers advance in the best-three-of-five championship series.
Des Moines gained the berth after Sioux City beat St. Paul 8-2, and Dubuque beat Austin, 5-4.
The Bucs, Sioux City, St. Paul and Austin finished with 3-2 records in the round-robin play. The teams with the biggest margin between goals scored and goals allowed advanced.
Regular-season champion Sioux City, which rallied from an 0-2 playoff start, had 29 goals for and 19 goals against. Des Moines had a spread of eight, 35-27.
