In-Depth Interview
January 14, 1997

Sarah: How do you like Des Moines?

Jason Furness: I love Des Moines.

Sarah: Of course no one can say they hate Des Moines! With your size do you feel like you have to be an enforcer?

J. Furness: I definitely think it's part of the game and it's one of my roles.

Sarah: Do you even like hitting and checking?

Furness: Oh yeah, it's a little harder for me because of my size to get around the rink but, you got to do what you got to do.

Sarah: So how old where you when you started and why did you start?

Furness: I was four years old when I started, and I started because all my other brother's played.

Sarah: Have you always played your current position, or have you been something else in the past?

Furness: No, I played a lot of defense when I was growing up and I played center for a little bit.

Sarah: What did you like better?

Furness: Center.

Sarah: What about your past teams? I know you played on the Compuware team. Can you tell me anything more?

Furness: I left home when I was a junior in high school and I played in Marquette, Michigan for two years. Then I played for Detroit Compuware for a year. Last year I was in Waterloo.

Sarah: Do you have a favorite pro or college team?

Furness: Favorite pro team is probably the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Sarah: Tell me about some of the things you like to do besides hockey.

Furness: I like a lot of outdoor activities, a lot of camping and water skiing. I pretty much like the outdoors.

Sarah: What's the best thing about being a Buccaneer?

Furness: The best thing about being a Buccaneer is probably the fans support. Everyone knows who you are and what not around the rink.

Sarah: What kind of advice do you have for younger players?

Furness: When you're starting out it comes a little slowly, but don't give, up just keep trying.

Sarah: What are your goals for your future?

Furness: I'd like to play college hockey and from there on I don't know.

Sarah: What would the fans be surprised to know about you?

Furness: That I'm a really nice guy off the ice.
