Dan Tormey - Number 1 Position: Goaltender Dan comes to the Des Moines Bucs this year after playing for the River City Lancers. Dan is a native of Syracuse, NY where he started playing hockey at the age of 5. Dan’s favorite NHL player is J.S. Giguere of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks because he fought through adversity and came out on top. December 2003: Dan Tormey was named the Let's Play Hockey/USHL Defensive Player of the Week for his performance on Saturday against the St. Louis Heartland Eagles. Tormey, from Syracuse, NY, recorded the first shutout of the season for the Buccaneers, stopping twenty-four shots on his way to defeating the Heartland Eagles 3-0. The shutout raised Tormey's save percentage to .907 and lowered his goal against average to 3.43. Dan Tormey was traded in December, 2003. Interview Kevin Kasel: Tell me about your family life, do you have any brothers or sisters? Dan Tormey: I have one sister who is a senior at UMass-Amherst. She is 21, her name is Darcy, and my Mom and Dad. Kevin: How old were you when you started playing hockey? Dan: I was 5 years old. Kevin: Why did you start? Dan: Because of my neighbor - I always followed after him, he was a few years older then me. He always played hockey or lacrosse. So I did the same. Kevin: Have you always been a goaltender? Dan: No. Kevin: How long have you played goaltender? Dan: Since second year of Squirts. Kevin: Tell me about the past teams you've played for. Dan: I grew up playing for Syracuse Stars. Played high school, we won the state championship. Played with the Syracuse Jr. Crunch in the Ontario Provincial League. And last year I played with the River City Lancers for half the year, then I got hurt. And now I am here. Kevin: If I won the lottery, the first thing I'd do is … Dan: Invest it. Kevin: Do you have a favorite pro or college team? Dan: Pittsburgh Penguins. Kevin: What about a favorite player? Dan: Mario Lemieux. Dan: All of them, or Tara Reid, she basically looks like my girlfriend. Kevin: Where would you like to go to college? Dan: Boston. Kevin: College or University? Dan: Boston University. Kevin: Do you have a pre-game ritual? If so, what is it? Dan: Can't tell ya. Kevin: Typical goalie. Kevin: If you started your own NHL franchise, and you could pick any player, who would you start with and why? Dan: Lemieux obviously. Patrick Roy, he's a pretty good goalie. Paul Coffey. Ray Borque. (Sergei) Fedorov. Bobby Hull. Gordie Howe. Kevin: What are your superstitions? Dan: I don't have any. I don't like to believe in that stuff. Kevin: Who is faster, Speedy Gonzalez or the Road Runner? Dan: Neither, I can beat both of them. Kevin: What is your favorite Des Moines radio station? Dan: 103.3 or 106.3. Kevin: That's quite a various difference there. Dan: I know. I like everything. Kevin: What food dish do you miss most from home? Dan: All my Mom's cooking. Kevin: What is something you've always wanted to do, but haven't yet?
